Promising garden strawberries: how Tevitta and Polish Niwa are setting new standards in breeding and production
Polish company Niwa Hodowla Roślin Jagodowych sp.z, founded in 2012, is actively developing garden strawberry breeding for the professional berry market. Its unique strawberry genetic base, which includes over 300 clones, has enabled it to develop innovative varieties for dessert consumption and berry processing.
Find out how the Polish company Niwa Hodowla Roślin Jagodowych sp.z, represented in Ukraine by the Tevitta brand, has achieved leadership in garden strawberry cultivation. You will also receive practical recommendations on creating ecological berry plantations that meet modern standards of sustainable production.
From the very beginning of its activity, Niwa invested in strawberry breeding programmes, initially with its own funds, which led to the creation of promising varieties, in particular Amaranth Niwa and Beskid. Later, the company received funding from EU programmes, which allowed it to implement large-scale projects. In 2016–2023, the varieties Alka and Mazurek were registered for processing, and the 2019–2023 project ended with the registration of dessert strawberry varieties – Remiz, Bogatka and Vilga.
In Ukraine, Bartłomiej Danek’s company Niwa Hodowla Roślin Jagodowych sp.z is represented by the Tevitta brand (SFG Blagodatne), which is part of the LNZ Group agricultural holding.
Tevitta nursery: virus-free strawberries and modern breeding
The Tevitta nursery tests the latest breeding developments from Niwa, from which the most promising are selected. This approach allows Ukrainian agricultural producers to obtain virus-free strawberry planting material that meets European quality requirements and ensures stable yields.
“To be competitive, berry producers must not only introduce new cultivation technologies, but also regularly update garden strawberry varieties in line with modern breeding achievements. The Tevitta brand helps to select planting material adapted to the conditions of a particular farm,” explains Roman Franchuk, Director of Agricultural Production at LNZ Group.
Frozen strawberries and vegetables from Tevitta: a full production cycle
In addition to breeding, Tevitta is also actively developing the production of frozen berries and vegetables in Ukraine. The Avuar freezing plant, which operates under the Tevitta brand, recently hosted Agrotour Processing 2025. Participants were shown the entire technological process — from sorting to packaging frozen strawberries and other crops.
The company produces not only frozen strawberries, but also cherries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, as well as frozen vegetables: corn, broccoli, cauliflower, onions, pumpkin and peppers. Ready-made vegetable mixes, which are available in national retail chains, are in increasing demand.
‘We create high-quality frozen products that retain their taste, texture and nutritional value. Our goal is to meet the expectations of retailers and HoReCa in Ukraine and abroad,’ says Mykola Chornozub, director of the plant.
